How to maintain your electric skateboard after riding wet?---by Teamgee
Teamgee electric skateboards are rated as IP54 (Liquids Ingress Protection 54).
It means that protection assured against water splashing from any angle and protection assured against water jets projected by a nozzle (6.3mm) from any angle. Most of the electric skateboards are not made for wet/rainy day, so it is better not to ride an electric skateboard on a slippy road or in rain. Water gets into the metallic parts and causes rust, making bearings seize up and stick to your truck. It makes the bolts rust making it impossible to get the nuts off. Not to mention the electric components. Most of the water damage to electric skateboard was caused by the wheels rotating splashes water into motor wheels and ESC case during riding, which can eventually cause short-circuit. But sometimes, you have gone over riding on a slippery road or in rain by accident, then what should you do?
Seal the edges and gaps before you ride
The rider can seal all along the edges of the battery case, ESC case and all gap of an electric skateboard with silicon. Also, water thrown up from rear wheels can enter anywhere along the sides, and the most dangerous is water entering the motor cable entrance points. So there is a further option to seal the motor controller with spray sealant to protect it. If you intend to have any silicone touching the electronics, make sure it’s a neutral cure silicone and not the acetic one.
After riding in the rain or over a puddle
*Dry the skateboard
Riding through a long deep puddle of even half an inch is similar to complete immersion after a certain amount of time. After riding your electric skateboard in wet, you need to dry all surfaces possible, making sure that in particular the charging port is dry before re-inserting. Then you can flip the board upward, and use the cruising setting on the remote control to operate the motor wheels around a half hour to make sure the water was dried up. If your skateboard has been immersed in a deep puddle and you have strong practical abilities, you can disassemble the skateboard and wipe every part of the skateboard.
*Clean the bearings
When water entering the bearings makes bearing rust in place, which can eventually seize up and may throw you off your board. So you need to check the condition of the bearings after riding in the rain or over a puddle. You can apply oil to bearings, but not too much and remember to wipe the oil dry as much as possible when the oil into the pinion balls due to the oil can generate dust and mud, which could also seize up the bearing and lead to board malfunction.
When there are unusual sound of the PU wheels while driving
If the wheel speed is different and there is abnormal noise, it indicates that the motor bearing is stuck due to slippery road or rusting water. Please use WD-40 descaling lubricant to align the position of the motor shaft several times. At the same time, use the remote control to repeatedly operate the motor forward and reverse, and clean the rust and dirt in the motor bearing.
